Our itinerary begins at the Forum Boarium, the ancient cattle market that stood near the city river\u2019s port. The area attracts visitors eager to place their hands inside the Bocca della Verit\u00e0 (the Mouth of Truth) in the portico of S. Maria in Cosmedin. There are many other sights to see in this corner of the city alongside the Tiber including: the classical remains from the Republican age and the later Empire and Medieval churches such as S. Giorgio in Velabro and S. Maria in Cosmedin, founded by the Greek community from Byzantium. S. Nicola in Carcere shows us a beautiful example of a temple that was converted into a church in the middle Ages. From the Tiber River we climb the Aventin hill where we visit the churches S. Saba and S. Sabina, as well as the little known underground areas of S. Prisca.
