The museum’s collection and temporary exhibitions document the cultural, social and artistic life of Rome from the Middle Ages to the first half of the 20th century. The Museo di Roma at Palazzo Braschi, designed by the architect Cosimo Morelli (1732-1812) in the immediate vicinity of Piazza Navona, has existed since 1952. In 1987, the museum was closed due to extensive restoration work and only since 2002 has it been restored to the public accessible. The exhibition includes: historic carriages, furniture, sedan chairs, medals, porcelain and other interesting handicrafts, fabrics and clothing. Of great value is also the collection of paintings with works from the 16th to the 18th century depicting religious and bourgeois events in Rome, including paintings by painters such as Andrea Sacchi, Pierre Subleyras, Pier Leone Ghezzi, Marco Benefial and Pompeo Batoni. Among the sculptures in the collection are the works of Francesco Mochi, Alessandro Algardi, Melchiorre Caff\u00e0, Bernardino Cametti and Pietro Tenerani.
